The Biology Year 2 course is a comprehensive program designed in alignment with the Ministry of Education’s new Senior High School Curriculum in Ghana. This curriculum aims to equip learners with 21st-century skills and shared Ghanaian values, preparing them for responsible adult life and further academic or professional pursuits.

The course is organized into four main sections:

Section 1: Biology as the Science of Life – This section explores the characteristics and economic importance of fungi like Rhizopus spp., as well as mosses and ferns. It emphasizes how biological concepts like nutrition and reproduction are applied in society to improve national crop and animal production.

Section 2: Cytology – Life in the Fundamental Unit – Learners dive into the study of cells, focusing on bulk transport mechanisms like endocytosis and exocytosis. A major part of this section covers molecular biology, including DNA replication, RNA transcription, and protein synthesis.

Section 3: Diversity of Living Things and Their Environment – This part examines the life cycles of insects such as the honeybee and grain weevil, alongside the diverse ecosystems of Ghana. It also addresses public health through the study of immunization and vaccination.

Section 4: Systems of Life – The final section focuses on mammalian biology, specifically the cardiovascular and excretory systems and their roles in maintaining homeostasis. It also investigates transport systems in flowering plants and the process of photosynthesis.

The course materials were developed through a partnership between the Ghana Education Service and national teacher unions to ensure they are practical and teacher-led. This course includes various activities, review questions, and glossaries to support learners in their classroom learning and independent revision.
